In many ways, Keli Lane is the daughter of his father. Fit, charismatic and sociable, she followed in his footsteps as a talented athlete. But when his life collapses around her, she felt very lonely.

While the mystery of the most obvious case concerns the last hours of life Tegan, another is how Lane’s father, a former police officer and trained observer of human nature, had no idea her daughter had Tegan and gave birth to two other children – who were given up for adoption – while under his watchful eye.
The day was born Robert Keli Lane was so happy he cried all the Steyne Hotel, and filled the maternity hospital with flowers.
Mr. Lane was a permanent fixture alongside her daughter as her pregnancy hidden revelations continued to come during the investigation of coroners Coroners Court Westmead in 2005. And yet, the police telephone intercepts and interviews made public at trial, Lane demonstrate how she was terrified to find about the pregnancy, the child disappeared and the police investigation – so much so that she feared that he could remove the girl she gave birth to 2001 and maintained.
In a 2004 interview of police, told detectives Lane:”There is no way, if my parents found out, they let me keep it … You do not know my father. Can you imagine what he’ll do?”
Mr. Lane is not entitled to claim The Sun-Herald for an interview.
A family friend, who declined to be named, said Lane had grown up in fear her father constante””de discipline. Keli”and his brother Morgan were petrified of their father … She was so afraid to fail him, either at school, in sports, nothing.”
Mr. Lane was an outstanding surfer from Manly in the early days of the sport in Australia. In the 1960s, he, Glynn Ritchie Nipper and Williams – all locals Manly – were known as garçons”Bower”parce they surfed reef break at Fairy Bower.
Lane came in third with Nat Young, Mick Dooley in the first Australian Championships at Bondi Beach in 1963. There was also a talented rugby player, turning on Manly in the late 1960s and 1970. In 1981-82, he became coach. Alan Jones took the reins next season, Mr. Lane returned to the position in 1986-87.
Professionally, he also rose through the ranks as detective focused on his career at Manly police station. Former player Fred Whiteman described Mr. Lane – ou”Moose”comme it was then called – as un”passionnés,”Manly-ite faithful who was highly respected throughout the region.
Another associate described the former club coaching style as Mr. Lane que””no-nonsense. The player, who preferred not be named, said:”Lane was a real old-style head-kicker. It was tough, hard and copper that is reflected in his coaching style.”
In early 1990, Mr. Lane has climbed to the top of the social ladder of Manly. Living in Fairlight, he and his wife Sandra have been meetings are held regularly at parties and functions – and when he came to discuss the children with knowledge about a glass of Champagne Lanes spoke proudly of The promising future of Keli and Morgan.
Like his father, Keli loved the sport. It was a good swimmer and had found its way into water-polo.En as a member of the Balmain Water Polo Club in the mid-1990s, she was suddenly knocked on the door of the national team, which in turn being nominated to represent Australia at the 2000 Olympics.

It took some time for the main police Detective Gaut Richard Bradley Edgerton and understand how Lane would have disguised her pregnancies and births of their friends, family and even his long-term lover, footballer Duncan Gillies. It did not help that the woman uncooperative under investigation just happened to be the daughter of a policeman leading the retreat which had been based on their position at Manly.

After a friend tried to console Lane in January 2004, to reassure her that her parents loved her, Lane said,”But I do not think they will, after that, you know what I mean?
I remember Dad saying after telling him that I was pregnant with [the girl in 2001], “Oh, you can not top this one Keli, and that’s all I keep hearing.” ‘
After finally telling the truth to her fiance – several weeks before their wedding – Lane informed his parents were furious that might be:”I’ll cop whatever they tell me … They can call me a slut or a fool or an asshole or whatever.”
Once the mother Keli heard the news, she warned that her husband’s reaction would be severe – even advise Lane to keep her daughter away from the fall. ”We must speak the absolute truth. I tell you, because he knows how to find things you would not believe.”
Lane said.”He will not hurt me or anything”
Her mother said:”It will not hurt you but it will explode. You know, is not it?”

Marquette coach faces former wife poor season
GODFREY – Peggy Wethington sided favorite holiday with her husband’s pain this year since he died Nov. 15.
“I have my moments,” Wethington said through tears, recalling the last six years of medical misfortune Wethington’s Pat. “Our daughter and I spent Thanksgiving with Mom, but Christmas will be the hard because it is the season he loved. ”
Pat, 50, Marquette Catholic High School baseball coach for six years until his health damage, suffered all kinds of surgeries for something that started as acid reflux.
“He was well respected by his players,” said Wethington.
Since 2004, Wethington began to accumulate medical bills that eventually forced to leave their home in August and Godfrey Godfrey in an apartment because of the expense of Pat health care. Pat stop working in 2008 due to his health problems.
“We had to move our house because we could not afford it anymore,” said Wethington, 43, who works full time at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Alton, Pat, run by his employer. “I am still receiving bills from the hospital in and so on, I’m still paying for nutrition he received.”
Ironically, nutrition, he was supposed not to receive his stomach, causing him to essentially starve. For 2008 alone, Peggy Wethington, who has a daughter 15 years with Pat, has more than 0,000 in hospital bills.
“It all started with acid reflux, then he has had three operations to correct the acid reflux in two years,” she recalled. “In 2005, after the third operation, they had to do emergency surgery for a bleeding ulcer.”
Pat has continued to experience serious health problems in 2006, when he had an obstruction of the small intestine, for which he underwent surgery.
Then, 3 May 2008, he had yet another surgery for a bowel obstruction, followed by surgery on May 11, when a blood clot was blocking his colon. The surgery led Pat to have a temporary ileostomy, which is a surgical opening built through the end or loop of the small intestine called the ileum, on the surface of the skin. intestinal waste out of the ileostomy and is collected in an external pouching system stuck to the skin.
Ileostomies are needed when illness or injury has rendered the large intestine incapable of waste safely gut. Temporary ileostomies are finally “won” or canceled by a surgical repair of the loop of the intestine, which makes the stoma, and closes the incision.
Then, on May 13 this year, more problems developed.
“He had to go again (in hospital) because it was bleeding,” Wethington said. “He developed a staph infection, his liver was failing, kidney failure. He had an incision infection, pneumonia and went into respiratory failure, he was on a ventilator for five days.”
After eventually recovering from this battle to the hospital in 2009, physicians at Pat Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis ileostomy reversed by Pat, his wife.
But then this July, Pat fell ill again.
“He had a fever, a staph infection in his blood, and then down,” said Wethington. “He took intravenous nutrition, and the line was infected, and they removed it was not able to get much nutrition.”
By October 26, her doctors wanted to put the patent to the hospital for a feeding tube. The situation continued to deteriorate, especially after November 4.
“They took the patent in surgery for seven hours because they found he had surgery in 2008 had bypassed the small intestine, and it did not receive the nutrients,” she remembers sobbing . If I had not learned to the doctor, he died at home. ”
He underwent another emergency surgery on Nov. 9.
“The fat in the abdominal wall was dead”, said Wethington.”From the midline of the stomach with his left, he was covered by mesh inserted by a doctor to cover the intestines. Then on Nov. 14, they gave him on a ventilator because his airway was been compromised. ”
Wethington received one of the last call she ever receive about immediate health of her husband when her doctor has notified at 5:30 am on Nov. 15 that the patent was once again a fan.
At this stage, surgery, doubtful, who had chances of survival at less than 50 percent, could not help Pat, “she said.
“The doctor spoke with me, the transaction would make no difference if they did or not, because his blood flow was compromised,” she said. “The doctor said the best thing to do was remove it (the fan) and make him as comfortable as possible. ”
Twelve hours have elapsed from the time Pat went on the ventilator until his death, once removed from the ventilation, Pat died in 20 minutes, “said Wethington, who was married to Pat for over 10 years.

I am proud to have been able to call my brother Pat. His love for his family will never be forgotten. I saw him try to work to help his family when he was sick, he didn’t really leave the stop until the last two years. It is truly missed by myself and our entire family.

Pat will be greatly missed. Have undergone other surgery for acid reflux never given a simple blood test for celiac disease, which displays the same symptoms. Local attorneys use the same local doctors for their malpractice reference to a conflict of interest.
